Bunksy Boy - Dane Nelson

Five horses claimed on the day

SILVER FOX UPSETS AT 11-1

The Michael Marlowe-conditioned Silver Fox (Here Comes Ben – It’s Not Nice) created a mild upset when defeating rivals at odds of 11-1 to win the four-year-old and upwards Restricted Allowance (non-winners of two) call over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m).

Silver Fox was nowhere to be seen at the off as the four-year-old chestnut colt raced among the backmarkers, watching as Jahsendblessings (Dane Nelson) prompted the pace ahead of Lady Pujarie (Richard Henry) and True Bravado (Roger Hewitt).

Jockey Dane Dawkins then asked Silver Fox to pick up the pace leaving the half-mile as True Bravado, who had snatched the lead five furlongs out, opened up on rivals approaching the distance. Silver Fox hit top gear in deep stretch and blasted home to win by 1 ¼ lengths.

True Bravado finished second, 2 ¾ lengths ahead of third-place JJThestriker (Chalrick Budhai).

BUNKSY BOY IS OFF THE MARK

Four-year-old bay gelding Bunksy Boy (American Dance – Honey Darling), after 15 starts, was able to lead home rivals in a native-bred four-year-old and upwards maiden special weight call at seven furlongs (1,400m).

Trained by Ryan Darby and ridden by Dane Nelson, Bunksy Boy surged to the front after the first furlong and held the lead ahead of Fearless Vibe (Paul Francis) and Miss HJF (Robert Halledeen). Bunksy Boy maintained a steady gallop down the backstretch before upping the tempo going into the final bend.

Nelson then held off the challenge to score by half-a-length ahead of stablemate Fearless Vibe and Miss HJF. The winning time was 1:31.1.

 EASY PICKINGS FOR SALAH

Salah, stepping from the $750,000 claiming to the $550,000-$450,000 spread romped the contest at a mile.

The Lorne Kirlew trainee, under a relaxed hold from jockey Shane Ellis, raced in fourth place for the first half of the race behind Dracarys (Aaron Chatrie), Winx Choice (Chris Mamdeen), and Stallwalkin’girl (Samantha Fletcher).

Salah continued to bide his time well before letting loose at the half-mile (800m) when he went down in chase of Dracarys who tried to slip the field. Entering the lane, Salah found top stride and blew past Dracarys to win by effortlessly by 5 ½ lengths in a time of 1:42.0.

Dracarys held for second money as Lazer Light (Dane Nelson) came on late for third cash.
