QUICK GALLOPP LOGO RED
KINGSTON, Jamaica – THE QUICK GALLOPER has compiled special notes for the race day of Saturday, May 7, 2022, to include the THE PORTMORE.

THE PORTMORE

1 - The dominant sire in the The Portmore is Savoy Stomp, who is the sire of four of the nine runners. The four Savoy Stomp offspring are Nefertari (Savoy Stomp out of Princess Geeta) trained by Anthony Nunes; Our Angel (Savoy Stomp out of My Angel) trained by Robert Pearson; Rupunzel (Savoy Stomp out of Miss Pasion) trained by Patrick Fong, and Silent Mission (Savoy Stomp out of Lady Mandi) trained by Jason DaCosta.
2 – Only two of the horses in the The Portmore have won two or more races, and these two are the main combatants Golden Wattle and Atomica. Both have won three races with Golden Wattle doing so in six starts, while Atomica is three from three. The seven others in the THE PORTMORE have won one race each.
3 – Two apprentices are riding in the The Portmore. Youville Pinnock is on board Prncsshootingstar, while Oshane Nugent mounts up on Rupunzel.

THE JOCKEYS

Saturday sees the return in the saddle at Caymanas Park of jockey Allen ‘Bongo John’ Maragh. Maragh has been, for many years now, plying his trade in Florida both as a rider and a trainer. “Bongo John” rides One Don in the eleventh race for trainer Gary Subratie.
The younger riders, Dane Dawkins and Tevin Foster dominate the race day with the number of rides. Dawkins has mounts in seven of the 11 races, and so too Foster. Champion Anthony Thomas has six rides on the day along with Dick Cardenas and a seemingly rejuvenated Omar Walker.

THE HORSES

The winner of the 2021 Jamaica Guineas Miniature Man makes his return after 308 days of injury time rehabilitation at a distance which should prepare him for his next encounter.
There are two newcomers on the programme.
Edina Marsh, who races in the eighth, is a three-year-old bay filly (April 25) by Buzz Nightmare out of Sheza Spy trained by Donovan Plummer.
Desha, who races in the ninth, is a chestnut filly (February 21) by Nuclear Wayne out Princess Sallema trained by Rowan Mathie.
