KINGSTON, Jamaica – The following notes represent the special happenings on the nine-race programme on Saturday, June 11, 2022.
THE THREE-YEAR-OLDS
There were two – three-year-old races on offer, one a maiden and one a non-winner of two races.
In the maiden contest (six furlongs) Josh obliged for trainer Richard Azan and jockey Dane Dawkins. While the victory by Josh was expected, the real eye-catcher was second by the post, Sonny T and Chippy from the barn of Spencer Chung. This half-brother of Calculus, got off to a bad start, with his early effort also interrupted by interference, yet, Sonny T and Chippy was seen making significant headway in the final furlong. Make sure to follow the progress of Sonny T and Chippy, especially going longer distances.
Thalos impressed in a non-two, with a defining victory, two wins from three starts. Thalos gives the impression that he has substantial room for improvement with his only concern being his lack of competitive races. This is an indication that Thalos has some issues hence ginger handling by his trainer Anthony Nunes.
THE OLDER HORSES
The highest-rated event on the day was an Overnight Allowance call going a mile. The Fitzroy Glispie trained, owned, and bred, long-serving Overnight campaigner Money Monster after several tries got it right when put to lead by jockey Reyan Lewis to score convincingly. This win by Money Money was payoff for the dedication and perseverance of Glispie and his team.
The favourite in this event Miniature Man seems to be finding it difficult to return to his top form of last year which saw him winning the 2000 Guineas. Miniature Man returned approximately two months ago from a long break and has had three runs under his hoofs without impressing. The progress of Miniature Man will be watched closely.
THE JOCKEYS
On the day, two of the three leading riders, Dane Dawkins, and Tevin Foster rode winners. Leader among the jockeys Anthony Thomas was winless although he sat on three favourites. Thomas’ lead was cut to two wins.
Readers on QUICKGALLOP.COM should closely follow the progress of jockey Reyan Lewis. This young man has had a topsy-turvy career thus far, with the hope now being he has dealt with whatever issues have been impeding his development in the saddle. Lewis is a talented individual, who has the potential and skill to be one of the better jocks in the years ahead.
THE TRAINERS
On the day, only one of the top three trainers champion Anthony Nunes visited the winners’ enclosure. Nunes’ winner was the impressive Thalos.
