KINGSTON, Jamaica - The Quick Galloper has gone through the nine starters, jockeys, and trainers in the 2023 – Jamaica 1000 Guineas, and has compiled some special notes for the benefit of readers.
The Jamaica 2000 is run over a mile for three-year-old colts and geldings, and will be contested on Sunday, June 4, 2023.
1 – The only trainer with more than one starter in the 2023 – 2000 Guineas is Carl Anderson. The ‘Cat Man’ as Anderson is known in racing circles, owns, trains, and is the breeder of Burning Valor, and Secret Admiral.
2 – Of the nine starters in the 2000 Guineas, four have a record of two or more wins. Mojito leads the way with four victories from six starts, Ability has two wins from three starts, Rhythm Buzz has two wins from seven attempts, and Awesome Anthony has two wins from eight starts.
3 – By far the horse with the most starts in the 2023 – 2000 Guineas is Whizz Kidd with 15 visits to the race day starting gates, from which he has earned one win, and $1,615,150.
4 – Three of the nine starters enter the 2000 Guineas with wins in their last race, Mojito, Rhythm Buzz, and Money Miser.
5 – The sire with the most starters is Soul Warrior. Soul Warrior is the sire of Money Miser (Soul Warrior out of She’s Traditional), and Awesome Anthony (Soul Warrior out of Antoinette). Interestingly, of the eight stallions represented in the 2000 Guineas, only one, has raced in Jamaica before. That honour is held by Buzz Nightmare, sire of Rhythm Buzz.
6 – Of the eight trainers in the 2023 – 2000 Guineas, five have already tasted success in this Classic event. The five are Gary Subratie, Richard Azan, Jason DaCosta, Patrick Lynch, and Patrick Taylor. Subratie saddled Big Man Boyu – 2011, Wow Wow - 2020; Azan - Coltrane – 2005, Rampage – 2006, and Mark My Word in 2010; DaCosta - Miniature Man – 2021, Lynch – Blue Vinyl – 2022, and Taylor – Commander Two in 2018.
7 – The only jockey of the nine in the 2023 – Jamaica 2000 Guineas to previously win the event is Javaniel Patterson. Patterson rode Commander Two to victory in the 2018 edition.
