KINGSTON, Jamaica – Nine-year-old bay gelding Smokey Topaz recorded his eighth career victory from 68 starts with a clear win in the Caymanas Saturday third.
This eighth win by Smokey Topaz (9-5) was achieved in a three-year-old and upwards Claimer ($250,000 - $200,000) run over the five furlongs round course.
Jockey Youville Pinnock kept Smokey Topaz within reach of the leader Balazo (Oshane Nugent), with both entering the straight close to each other.
After a brief tussle, Smokey Topaz pulled away to earn his trainer Joseph Durrant his third winner in 2021.
Second was Balazo just over Sharp Skirt.
