KINGSTON, Jamaica – Shauna Cruise, jockey Omar Walker and trainer Nicholas Smith got the star-studded Guineas Classic raceday off to a gentle start for punters winning as the 6-5 favourite.
Shauna Cruise's success came in a claiming race ($250,000 - $200,000), for three-year-old and upwards horses run over 7 ½ furlongs.
With the Reggae-6 exotic wager topping over $7 million, it was Top Eagle (Abigail Able) who shot off in front, leading to the first bend when Treasure Train (Samantha Fletcher) took over.
Walker was biding his time on Shauna Cruise and cruised down to enter the last two furlongs for the stretch drive in front.
There were challenges mainly from Nasdaq Princess (Chris Mamdeen) and Band of Gold (Daniel Satchell) but Shauna Cruise held firm to score by 1 ¼ lengths. Nasdaq Princess was second and Band of Gold third.
