Dane Nelson boots home another three-timer
Since returning from Canada last month, former three-time champion jockey Dane “Warrior Chief” Nelson has been nothing but brilliant in the pigskin. The bustling jockey rode another three winners to take his tally to 19 wins on seven race days.
He got his first win in the sixth race when he steered home Lazer Light going five furlongs (1,000m) on the round course.
Bred, owned and trained by Gary Griffiths, Lazer Light won ahead of Ridewiththemob (Raddesh Roman) and Tradition (Samantha Fletcher).
Nelson’s next winner Patriarch came after a brilliant ride. Patriarch, trained by Anthony Nunes, won the $1-million top-rated Non-Restricted Overnight Allowance highlighter.
Going over five furlongs straight, Patriarch made one move under a powerful and straight ride to win over stable mate Prince Charles (Aaron Chatrie) and K D Flyer (Dane Dawkins) in a quick 57.3.
The Warrior Chief claimed his triple in the final race when he drove Dreamingofanna to victory over Crucial Treasure (Dane Dawkins) going 5 furlongs round. Dreamingofanna is owned and trained by Michael Marlowe.
Ruja Lahoe notches second winner in 2019
Ruja Lahoe notched his second winner for the 2019 racing season aboard the Joseph Thomas-conditioned Sharp Skirt in the day’s first race – an Optional Claimer - ($250,000-$200,000) run over four furlongs (800m).
Sharp Skirt and Super Mal (Dane Nelson) matched strides early in the race, but as the field motored past the dummy rails inside the final furlong (200m), Sharp Skirt found top gear and drew off for a comfortable 3 ¾ length win in the end.
Jon Marshall (Phillip Parchment) and Painthistownred (Omar Walker) chased home the winner in that order. The winning time was 46.3.
Miss In Kiss gets there
After some reasonable efforts resulting in some close finishes, Miss In Kiss (Nuclear Wayne – She’s So Lovely) got her head in front in a Restricted Allowance event contested over five furlongs round.
Miss In Kiss, trained by Gresford Smith and ridden by Omar Walker, didn’t get a good start but raced in close touch to the leaders as Mother Nature (Natalie Berger), Nuclear Thunder (Phillip Parchment) and Contractor (Aaron Chatrie) set the splits.
Miss In Kiss got into contention at the seven-sixteenth pole when Contractor took over the lead and looked strong approaching the home bend. At the top of the straight, Miss In Kiss joined Contractor for a brief moment before pulling away to score by 3 lengths. Contractor was second and Nuclear Thunder third. The final time was 59.4.
Anthony Allen makes use of chance ride on Capturemyship
Capturemyship, stepping down the claiming ranks to contest at a $550,000-$500,000) spread made light work of rivals in winning the five-furlong round event under apprentice Anthony Allen who replaced his colleague apprentice Romario Smith.
Allen made good use of his chance ride opportunity and brought home the Paul Charlton trainee to a comfortable five-length win in a time of 59.2.
Sure Cote (Phillip Parchment) was the first to show upfront, but quickly, Capturemyship surged on the inside rails to pick up the lead heading towards the four-furlong marker.
Capturemyship began to extend his lead with every stride until the wire intervened with Mr Pantheon (Raddesh Roman) getting second and Adoring Lady (Osive Donegal) third.
Three horses claimed
Three horses changed owners on the 10-race programme.
David Powell claimed Kimberly Gold for himself from Michael Francis while Henry Harrison Jr claimed Sharp Skirt for owner Gary Laing from Joseph Thomas from the first race. Both horses were taken for $250,000 each.
In the fifth race, winner Capturemyship was claimed from Paul Charlton by Gregory Forsyth for himself for $550,000.
