KINGSTON, Jamaica – Samantha Fletcher riding in the pink of form since the start of the year earned his fourth win in 2021 when she collared the leaders on Sweet Surprise (9-5) to win the Caymanas Saturday 3rd. That event was for five-year-old and upwards non-winners of two run at 7 ½ furlongs.
Trained by Patrick Smellie, who was saddling his first winner in many moons, Fletcher decided to stay at the back of her eight rivals when they left the gates.
The lead was taken by Nez Perce (Tevin Foster) the 4-5 on favourite with the likes of Black Royalty (Jemar Jackson) and Devine Lexie (Reyan Lewis) close by.
In the straight Devine Lexie took over but Fletcher timing her run perfectly went through horses to win by three lengths.
Devine Lexie held for second with Sweet Medicine (Aaron Chatrie) third.
