KINGSTON, Jamaica – Coming from the number two post position in a five straight contest, Samantha Fletcher kept El Gringo along a straight path to earn victory in the Caymanas Saturday fifth.
The fifth race of 10 on the day was a five-year-old and upwards Restricted Stakes (non-winners of three races).
Trained by Donovan Russell and racing at odds of 23-1, El Gringo stayed well behind as Casual Charm (Dick Cardenas) and It’sabeautifulday (Oneil Mullings) set the early fractions.
After entering the main track El Gringo, now fitted with the tongue tie, found his footing, and powered to the lead as It’sabeautifulday was switched by her rider to race on the inside.
Fletcher now pumping as hard as she could managed to maintain the advantage and was also able to thwart the late burst of Awesome Glitter (Roger Hewitt) on the outside rails. It’sabeautifulday finished third.
Fletcher was aboard her second winner on the day.
