Runaway Star Touted To Win On Debut In 3-Y-O Maiden Call

ON THE TRAIL

KINGSTON, Jamaica - The final event of ten on Saturday, January 11, 2025, is a three-year-old maiden call in which 12 are entered.

Five of the 12 in this seven-furlong contest are first-time starters.

The Quick Galloper’s assessment of the possible outcome is given

1 - MODERN MONARCH: A bay colt (January 30) by Casual Trick out of Revolving Beauty, trained by Patrick Lynch with Larris Allen as the jockey. Modern Monarch made a poor debut in January and has considerable improvement to achieve before competing successfully.

2 - PRINCE ROY: A bay colt (March 22) by Here Comes Ben out of Princess Shine, trained by Fitzroy Glispie with Youville Pinnock in the saddle. Prince Roy has been clocking reasonable morning workouts and is considered a potential contender for placing.

3 - PRINCE KAZAIRE: A dark brown colt (May 5) by Sensational Slam out of Maggie’s Way, trained by Donovan Thompson with Oneil Mullings as the jockey. Prince Kazaire has the cheekpieces on and is racing with first-time Lasix. He can be ruled out of contention after a poor debut on November 9 and being declared a non-starter on December 21.

4 - ROYAL MAVERICK: A bay colt (January 31) by Casual Trick out of Peyton’s Delight, trained by Patrick Lynch with Javaniel Patterson listed to ride. Royal Maverick, now racing with the blinkers, figure eight, and first-time Lasix, finished fourth on New Year’s Day, trailing the winner by 16 lengths. He shows potential for inclusion in the Trifecta, Superfecta, and Hi-5 bets.

5 - ONE CODE: A chestnut colt (January 22) by Patton Proud out of Sandbath, trained by Patrick Fong with Evertte Clunis as the rider. Early reports indicate that One Code has winning potential with time, but Saturday may not be his day.

6 - MY ECLIPSE: A bay colt (March 31) by Sensational Slam out of My Episode, trained by Phillip Lee with Oshane Nugent as the jockey. My Eclipse placed third in his debut on January 1, finishing 7 ¼ lengths behind the winner, Tribal Chief. This performance suggests a viable chance in this competitive field.

7 - PEAS HEAD: A bay colt (March 8) by Natural Selection out of Cowgirl Spirit, trained by Everal Francis with Shane Richardson riding. Peas Head is improving slowly but is not expected to be a significant contender in this race.

8 - MIRACLE SELECTION: A bay colt (March 9) by Midnight Hawk out of Sparkling Michaela, trained by Lincoln Lungs with Prince Holder as the jockey. Not ready as yet.

9 - MARK MY IDENTITY: A chestnut colt (March 5) by Bern Identity out of Sweet Like Sugar, trained by Enos Brown with Richard Henry aboard. In his first race on December 28, he finished second, almost ten lengths behind the winner, Honour Prince. Based on this initial showing, Mark My Identity could be a significant factor in the race given the quality of the field.

10 - ALCHEMY OF SOULS: A grey colt (May 10) by Spieth out of Emerald Belle, trained by Jason DaCosta with Jerome Innis as the rider. Currently, Alchemy of Souls is not anticipated to pose a serious threat in this race.

11 - RUNAWAY STAR: A chestnut colt (April 18) by Northern Giant out of Runaway Gal, trained by Jason DaCosta with Robert Halledeen as the designated rider. A full brother to former top-rated three-year-old Miniature Man, Runaway Star has produced notable morning gallops, clocking 5 ½ furlongs in 1:07.3 on December 28 and six furlongs in 1:14.1 on January 4. Although first-time starters often struggle at seven furlongs, his training suggests potential.

12 - SENSATIONAL SOUL: A chestnut colt (March 1) by Soul Warrior out of Red Gold, trained by Gary Subratie with Shane Ellis riding. Sensational Soul, racing with the figure eight, finished fourth in his debut on December 15, ten lengths behind the winner, Strong Mind. He has shown progress in training leading up to this open contest, giving him a solid chance to compete for the win.
