KINGSTON, Jamaica – Imported three-year-colt Runaway Algo confirmed his rapid development with a dominant win on Saturday, March 12, 2022.
That third win in succession came in a three and four-year-old and upwards non-winners of three races for foreigners and a non-winners of three for local bred horses going 6 ½ furlongs.
Runaway Algo dismissed the locals by going in front and was not for the catching with top jock Shane Ellis manoeuvring the reins. Trainer of Runaway Algo, Dale Murphy, who has been in the doldrums for a long while, must be a happy man, as Runaway Algo is now providing him with the campaigner he needs to show his prowess as a conditioner. And, thus far, Murphy has been answering the call, by presenting his number one charge Runaway Algo, fit and ready, for duty on all of his racing assignments to date.
While, Runaway Algo was confidently progressing to the ranks of the Overnight class, there were two local bred horses in the same contest with prospects in the upcoming Classic races. Note foreigners are not permitted to race in the local Classic races.
Brinks is the top two-year-old male of last season, and the only member of his cohort to win two races at two. This was Brinks’ three-year-old introduction, in what was a comfortable distance for the Ian Parsard trainee. Brinks was never in the contest and his customary turn of speed was not on display at any time. A disappointing effort by Brinks, giving his connections something to think about. Brinks finished six lengths behind the winner, and 4 ½ lengths behind second placed Deezi. There is work to be done by the handlers of Brinks.
Deezi, the second of the two three-year-old Classic aspirants made his seasonal entry on February 13, easily putting away three-year-old non-winners of two. Trained by Jason DaCosta, Deezi reinforced his consistency among this grouping with a creditable effort, but he was no match on the day for Runaway Algo.
The stalk reality of this year’s male three-year-olds, is that there is limited quality presently residing with this unit. The fillies inclusive of champion Golden Wattle, and the upcoming duo of Atomica and Outbidder are ahead of the entire pack. Then there is newcomer Nefertari, whose come from behind maiden win is already setting the cats among the racing pigeons.
