KINGSTON, Jamaica - Following her smashing victory in the one-mile Jamaica Guineas on Saturday, June 1, 2024, the Ian Parsard-trained grey filly, Run Julie Run is now the favourite to win the next Classic on the calendar, The Jamaica St Leger.
The 10-furlong, Jamaica St Leger is scheduled to be contested on Saturday, July 6, and is the first of the five Classic races where fillies, colts and geldings are eligible to compete against each other.
The oddsmakers at Quickgallopja.com have made Run Julie Run the 6-5 favourite for success in the St Leger based on her authoritative win in the Guineas and her clear ability to get a distance of ground effectively.
Despite finishing second in the 2000 Guineas behind stablemate California Crown, champion two-year-old Intrestntimesahead is listed as the St Leger second favourite at odds of 2-1.
The oddsmakers in making Intrestntimesahead the St Leger 2-1 second favourite are willing to disregard his run in the 2000 Guineas as an off effort.
California Crown, made in three wins from three starts when winning the 2000 Guineas. It was a gate-to-win run by California Crown, with the oddsmakers deducing that he would not be as effective going the ten furlongs of the St Leger. California Crown is given odds of 5-2.
Although not participating in the 2000 Guineas, Captain Sparrow, who has returned to morning exercise, has demonstrated enough to land as the fourth favourite in the St Leger. For sure he will enjoy every inch of the 10 furlongs.
