KINGSTON, Jamaica – In displaying his likeness for a distance of ground first time of asking and also his grittiness, Rum With Me (Casual Trick – Zacapa) was able to barely hang-on to win the sixth race on the Sunday card.
Ridden by Robert Halledeen and trained by Gary Subratie, Rum With Me racing in a three-year-old non-winners of two contest going a mile, took over the lead after two furlongs.
Rum With Me was consistently harassed by King Arthur (Anthony Thomas) but when they entered the straight, Rum With Me made a decisive move by spurting away from rivals.
Then from the back of the pack Green Gold Rush (Chris Mamdeen), who started to really move with three furlongs left in the race, exploded on the outside.
Green Gold Rush was literally eating up the ground with every stride while Halledeen was pumping as his life depended on it.
When the winning post arrived, Rum With Me held on by the narrowest of margins – a nose – to claim his second career victory.
Green Gold Rush finished second with King Arthur just ¾ length behind in third.
The winning time was a handy 1:39.2.
