KINGSTON, Jamaica – It was a long day at the Park yesterday (Saturday, October 12) as 12 races were contested following an early 11:00 am start.
The top-rated event (11th) was an Overnight six-furlong contest in which the partnership of the quiet almost baby looking jockey Dane Dawkins and the consistent and truly rugged My Sister proved irresistible once again as Dawkins is the only rider to win on My Sister.
My Sister’s late surge proved decisive as she caught speedster Mr Universe to score an outstanding victory for trainer Gary Subratie and owner/ breeder Michael Bernard.
Before My Sister’s 8-1 surging win in the 11th race, the day was one which saw favoured horse after favoured horse winning at will.
The results are as follows:
First Race - Lady V – 3-1
Second Race – Adonis – 3-5
Third Race – Uncle Wal – 1-1
Fourth Race – Prince Dominick – 3-5
Fifth Race – American Invader – 1-5
Sixth Race - Big Black Nation – 2-1
Seventh Race – Dezzy The Genius – 4-5
Eighth Race – Rojorn Di Pilot – 1-1
Ninth Race – Awesome Glitter – 5-2
Tenth Race – Nala’s Bushman – 2-1
The trend of four odds-on favourites and two even money winners was broken in the 11th by My Sister at 8-1 and then came the scorcher in the nightcap when El Gringo shattered the bubble at odds of 42-1.
HORSES TO WATCH
Based on performances on Saturday, the following horses are to be watched in future engagements.
1 – Alhamdulillah – Although this American bred was beaten five lengths by American Invader, Alhamdulillah was so far behind with a furlong to go in this five straight contest, he was still able to run on with quite a spurt to earn the second spot, making up over nine lengths in the process. Watch this one especially over distances of seven furlongs and up.
2 – Western Wheels – Finished third behind American Invader and Alhamdulillah coming down the five straight but Western Wheels did so from the prohibitive one draw which is always a negative factor when racing over the straight. In the process of finishing a good third, Western Wheels defeated her more reputed stablemates Universal Boss and Splendid Vision. Watch Western Wheels.
3 – Lady Blue – A filly dogged throughout her career with injuries but who is acclimatising well in the tepid waters of Overnight Allowance. Lady Blue is a fighter as seen by her performances in the Classic races she competed in this season. On Saturday, Lady Blue was highly noticeably finished third behind My Sister and Mr Universe. This filly is going to win a race or two before possible retirement at the end of the year.
