KINGSTON, Jamaica – Former champion jockey Omar Walker was the toast of Caymanas Park today (August 1) riding three winners.
One of Walker’s winners was Father Patrick, who consolidated his rich form of late with a classy sprinting display to win this year’s renewal of the Betting Gaming and Lotteries trophy.
After being kept off the pace, Father Patrick, trained by Ian Parsard, took over on the front end while manoeuvring the turn at the race's four-furlong point.
Walker then demonstrated his vast experience when he pushed Father Patrick even further ahead with three furlongs to go in the 5 ½ furlong – Overnight Allowance contest.
From then on, it was smooth sailing for Father Patrick as victory was assured. Wartime was second with God of Love third.
Father Patrick recorded a final time of a fast 1:05.3.
Walker’s other winners were Fabulosity and Blind Faith, the latter also trained by Parsard to give the conditioner a double on the day.
The other major point of interest during the 10 races was the start of this year’s juvenile season.
The first two-year-old race was taken in commanding fashion by the Wayne DaCosta trained bay filly by Natural Selection – Patara, Super Duper ridden by Phillip Parchment.
Racing over three furlongs, Super Duper was quickly out of his starting stall before drawing clear of his six rivals to win by two lengths. Second was Awesome Choice, with third the spot occupied by Prince Marshall. The winning time was 35.3.
Super Duper was DaCosta’s second winner on Saturday as he later won with Loose Ball at odds of 12-1, the longest on the day.
Parchment joined the club of those winning two races as he partnered Stanislaus to victory in the fifth event.
