A win for owner | trainer Maurice Crooks
KINGSTON, Jamaica – After a safe beginning in the first with the win by 4-5 favourite The Citadel, the upsetter appeared quickly in the guise of 23-1 Raw Liquid on the Caymanas Saturday (Mar 19) card.
Racing in the purple and white colours of trainer Maurice Crooks with Phillip Parchment holding the reins, Raw Liquid raced with the early leaders which included the 3-5 favourite Superluminal (Omar Walker). Entering the half-mile turn, Walker sent Superluminal on his way with Raw Liquid in chase. Then with three furlongs to go, the bustling Parchment made a mid-race surge to gain the ascendency, and after some resolute galloping, Raw Liquid went on to win his fifth race from 58 starts. It was the second winner in 2022 for Crooks.
Superluminal held for second with Action Run (Oshane Nugent) third.
Superluminal was subsequently claimed for $1,000,000.
The event won by Raw Liquid was a three-year-old and upwards Optional Claimer ($1,000,000 - $800,000) going seven furlongs.
