Issues reasons for recognition of new executive

KINGSTON, Jamaica - The following published below is a release from the regulatory body of racing in Jamaica, the Jamaica Racing Commission.

RE- 2022 UNITED RACEHORSE TRAINERS ELECTIONS

This is to advise that the Jamaica Racing Commission has reviewed the captioned matter and surrounding events leading up to the election held on 18th January 2022.  Further legal advice was also received from Attorney at law Garth McBean Q.C.  regarding the constitution of the United Racehorse Trainers Association of Jamaica.

The Commission noted in particular Clause 12 which provides for Special meetings: -

Special meeting of the members may be called by the President or the Secretary of the Association or upon the written request of any three members of the Executive Committee or by any 10 financial members of the Associations.

Clause 11 also highlights the following: -

The election of the new members of the Executive Committee shall take place every two years at Biennial General meeting.

Clause 27 of the Constitution provides in part that each member of the Executive Committee, including the President, holds office until he resigns be removed from or otherwise qualified to serve or his successor shall be elected.

As such the Commission recognizes the election of Mr. Patrick Smellie and his executive team as having been duly and lawfully elected on January 18th 2022.
