KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Quick Galloper examines races six to ten on the card of Saturday, September 16, 2023.
RACE SIX
In the unusual situation of having 16 runners, the maximum field in local racing, the sixth race featured a three-year-old maiden with an added qualification for horses earning under $280,000 lifetime. Paul Swaby-trained Golden Loyalty burst to the front from the starting gate in this six-furlong contest. With minimal effort from Tevin Foster, Golden Loyalty maintained a steady pace in the lane and won by nearly six lengths. This victory came after six starts and marked Swaby's fourth win out of 18 starts.
RACE SEVEN
Division One of the six-furlong three-year-old non-winners of two race honoured Flossie McNeil. Wayne's Princess mirrored Golden Loyalty by moving swiftly from barrier one and remained unthreatened throughout, securing a four-length lead as she crossed the finish line. This win was her trainer Jason DaCosta's second victory and jockey Reyan Lewis's third.
RACE EIGHT
The trend of dominating performances persisted as Joy Is Golden led from the start with lightweight rider Jordan Barrett. Despite being challenged by Aria's Reign, she held on to win Division Two of the Flossie McNeil Memorial Cup. This victory marked a long-awaited return to success for Barrett, who recorded his seventh win this season from 138 rides. Trainer Patrick Lynch made an effective equipment change as Joy Is Golden raced without a tongue tie but wearing a figure eight.
RACE NINE
The most anticipated race, the ninth of ten Open Allowance events at seven furlongs, honoured former crack filly Poorlittlerichgirl. Attention focused on foreigner Is That A Fact as he sought a fourth consecutive win after blazing through class conditions and ever-competitive Blue Vinyl, competing for the second time under trainer Al Brown. Reyan Lewis pushed Is That A Fact to his usual leading position, while Javaniel Patterson and Blue Vinyl stalked in third place before moving into a threatening spot at the top of the homestretch. Despite Blue Vinyl's persistence, Is That A Fact demonstrated determination and secured his fifth win in seven career starts. In doing so, he proved himself a progressive sort, never appearing to lose despite winning by a short head. This race was Reyan Lewis's fourth win and Jason DaCosta's third.
RACE TEN
The completion of five victories for Lewis and four for DaCosta occurred in the evening's final race when Luksol took one shot at five furlongs round in a restricted overnight event. This result means that the foreigner has another opportunity at the same level.
