MASTER OF HALL
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The more times that Master of Hall races, the more this four-year-old improves and keeps on demonstrating that he has quality enough to rise to the upper rank of racing.
On Saturday (April 27, 2019), Master of Hall, racing for the first time in Open Allowance going 9 furlongs + 25 yards gave a display that can only be described as awesome.
That there was silence in the stands among race goers when Master of Hall was skittering away from his five rivals, supplies sufficient proof that he is tailored out of special cloth.
When his rider, apprentice Reyan Lewis gave him a quick reminder that he was in a race, Master of Hall responded in emphatic fashion winning by over 10 lengths in a fast time of 1:56.2.
Master of Hall, now a four-year-old had injury difficulties at three but patience and care by his trainer Fitzroy Glispie has brought him to this point and now Glispie and his team are reaping the just rewards of their labour.
Master of Hall has in the last two years raced only nine times winning six races. Now he has one more Open Allowance to win and then he is going to rub shoulders with the top horses.
It is good, really good, to see a horse capturing the imagination of race goers, and the hope now is for Master of Hall to stay sound and continue his forward progress.
To put it mildly, racing needs more horses in 'A' Class.
APPRENTICE REYAN LEWIS
It is a common saying in Jamaica that blood follows vein, and maybe we are witnessing another case of this well-founded adage in action.
Apprentice Reyan Lewis is red-hot at the moment, riding winner after winner, somewhat like when his cousin, six-time champion jockey Omar Walker when he started his career in the pigskin.
Lewis boosted his stocks on Saturday, when he rode three winners on the 10-race card.
The young rider now has a total of 27 winners for the year, the same as Walker who had one winner on the day.
Lewis is showing that he has capable talent, so we wait to see how he develops especially after losing his riding allowance.
CHAMPION JOCKEY ANTHONY THOMAS
After a rather sombre start in defence of his title, champion jockey Anthony Thomas is slowly but surely finding his way more and more in the winners’ enclosure.
Thomas’ quest for a second title has been significantly bolstered by his new and much visible association with the top two trainers at the moment, Anthony Nunes and Gary Subratie.
Before Thomas made the move to Subratie and Nunes, he was more of a freelancer. Now his chances of making championship number two have been greatly improved.
Thomas was aboard two winners on Saturday, moving his season’s tally to 21.
