After yesterday’s (March 20) races, THE QUICK GALLOPER pointed out that joint champion jockey Anthony Thomas did not ride a winner from his eight rides – finishing second six times.
Well, today was a completely different story as the man from St Mary booted home four winners.
His winners on the day were Dee Danger, Mr Universe, Sensational Ending, and Hover Craft.
Thomas’ performance on Sensational Ending is worthy of special mention as he had to dig deep late in the stretch drive to get the edge of his nearest rival.
Thomas is blessed with a lot of ability plus his attitude as confirmed by all trainers is one of humbleness, cemented in hard work and fortified with a strong determination to succeed.
Not to be outdone, the other joint champion jockey Dane Nelson was not left standing in the lurch as he had two winners on the day and three over the Saturday/Sunday race days which were just completed.
HOVER CRAFT
It is always said that the older the wine the better it is. That seems to be the case for the now 11-year-old Hover Craft.
This oldster has been rejuvenated and is behaving as if he is a three-year-old once again.
The victory today was his second in seven days, the first was in high claiming level, and today his win came at the Overnight level.
THE QUICK GALLOPER congratulates the team at the Wayne DaCosta stables for keeping this ‘war horse’ on his hoofs for such a long period of time.
THE TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS OF SUPREME SOUL
In the same race with Hover Craft was the 2019 Triple Crown winner Supreme Soul. Since his ordeal after participating in the Caribbean Classic in December of 2019 and following his return to the island things have gone awry for Supreme Soul.
He has not found himself and his performances have dipped so far below the radar - they have been lost. +
Today going two turns, which he likes, against a moderate field of Overnighters, Supreme Soul with his favourite rider Shane Ellis doing duties, was close to the front runners, made a move leaving the three-furlong marker but had nothing in the final two furlongs.
The options now for Supreme Soul are limited and THE QUICK GALLOPER is hoping and wishing that his thoroughbred find his path.
REGNANT STAKES HIS CLASSIC CLAIMS
Just seven days ago Regnant was pipped on the line at six furlongs by Calculus in the Sir Howard Stakes.
Today, racing for the third time, this three-year-old offspring of Midnight Hawk – Mama Blossom, travelling a half-a-furlong longer, Regnant showed class and character in the manner of victory.
Based on his second in the Sir Howard and his victory today, Regnant is ticking all the right boxes leading to the Classic races.
THE QUICK GALLOPER congratulates trainer Victor Williams and his team for the way they have handled Regnant thus far.
