Trainer Anthony Nunes breathed a sigh of relief after his filly, Queen of Soul, delivered a winning performance to secure her maiden win as a three-year-old last Saturday at Caymanas Park.

As the 4-5 favourite, Queen of Soul, skilfully ridden by Raddesh Roman, dominated the five-and-a-half furlong event, crossing the finish line three and a half lengths ahead. She's Adorable, piloted by Paul Francis, put in a strong late run to take second, while Toronado and Steel Prince Holder secured third.

Nunes acknowledged Queen of Soul's talent but expressed the difficulties they've faced in getting her to settle due to various issues that have surfaced over the past seven months.

"She is a nice filly, but she has so many issues because she has given us a boxing lesson since November," said Nunes. "She has galloped twice in six months. She is talented, but she has a lot of problems," he said.

The trainer emphasised that Queen of Soul is bred for distance and hopes this win will help her become more focused at the races.

"She is bred to get a little distance of ground, and so if she stays sound, then she can be a very good filly. She lost on her debut to Run Julie Run [the 1000 Guineas winner] by a nose, so wherever Run Julie Run is, then she should be. But she has issues," he stated.
