Purse Increases Announced For 2025 Mouttet Mile Race Day

KINGSTON, Jamaica - In a significant development for horse racing in Jamaica, the Executive Chairman of Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL), Solomon Sharpe has announced significant increases in purse offerings for the three premier races on the 2025 Mouttet Mile race day.

The Mouttet Mile, the centerpiece of the event, will see its purse surge from US$250,000 to an impressive US$300,000, further elevating its status as a marquee race in the Caribbean.

Additionally, the prestigious Bruceontheloose Sprint Trophy will feature a substantial purse of US$100,000, equivalent to approximately JA$15.5 million. This race is specifically designed for Graded Stakes | Open Allowance horses and covers a distance of 6 ½ furlongs. Notably, the purse for the 2024 edition was JA$3 million, marking a dramatic leap.

The Chairman’s Plate, catering to Overnight horses racing the challenging two-turn route of nine furlongs and 25 yards, will offer a purse of US$40,000, or about JA$6.2 million. The 2024 Chairman’s Plate also had a purse of JA$3 million.

This may not be too good for the mile race... horsemen may prefer to run in the Bruce on the loose instead with a decent $100,000 us purse and easier opportunity to win example Desert of Malibu.. she's more effective at 6.5 furlongs than a mile,why not go for the easier money, just like what Run Julie Run did...make the sprint race shorter like 5 .5 furlongs to eliminate the alternatives..

  2. It's good that he is increasing the purse for these three events, he should follow up with an increase in the purses for all races for 2025. Along with that start looking at importing more horses from north America so that going forward the mouttet mile will have better local horses that can capture a majority of the purse money.
