Jason DaCosta|Gary Subratie, Dane Nelson|Dane Dawkins tied
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Along with the interest in especially the Reggae-6 exotic wager, the duels in two of the lucrative Quarterly Championships added more excitement to the two-weekend race days of (Saturday, March 26 and Sunday, March 27).
The first of the various championships under consideration is for the period January 1 – March 31, 2022.
In the male section of the jockeys with the most wins, long-time leader Dane Dawkins started the Saturday race day (March 26), as the sole leader with 23 wins, followed by Dane Nelson with 20 wins.
On the Saturday race day, Dawkins rode one winner and Nelson one, to move to 24 and 21 respectively. On the Sunday race day, Dawkins drew a blank, while Nelson was at his extravagant best riding a triple - Subbie, Giant Wheeler, and Crimson - to end with 24 wins in the quarter, the same as Dawkins.
In the section of trainers (over 35 horses) with the most wins, the leader from the start of the year Gary Subratie started the Saturday race meet with 15 wins, with Jason DaCosta lurking with 14 wins. At the conclusion of that race day, those numbers remained the same as both conditioners were winless.
Then on the Sunday card, DaCosta equalled the tally when Morse Code ridden by Trevor Simpson won the fourth race. Then DaCosta went ahead of Subratie as his charge Giant Wheeler (Dane Nelson) won the Sunday eighth. That one-win lead by DaCosta was, however, short-lived, as Subratie won the ninth with Crimson. The final tally Subratie 16 wins, DaCosta 16 wins.
