Principals In The Portmore, The Kingston, Put In Final Gallops

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Most of the main candidates set to compete in the three-year-old fillies only - The Portmore, and the colts and geldings The Kingston put in their final gallops yesterday, Sunday, April 30, 2023.

Both The Portmore, and The Kingston are the final major prep races before the Classic races – the 1000 and 2000 Guineas – set for early June. The Portmore and The Kingston are run over 7 ½ furlongs.

EXPECTED RUNNERS IN THE PORTMORE

All For Love from the barn of Gary Subratie galloped five furlongs out of the chute in 1:02.3.

The howling odds-on favourite to win both The Portmore and the 1000 Guineas, Bootylicious galloped 5 ½ furlongs in a pleasing 1:07.4. Bootylicious is trained by Ian Parsard.

Leading contender Mamma Mia trained by champion Jason DaCosta galloped seven furlongs in a clocking of 1:28.4.

Royal Ash after a disappointing effort in the recently run Thornbird Stakes (7 furlongs), galloped six furlongs in a time of 1:16.2.

Thalita, who finished a deserved second in The Thornbird, in her first start in 2023, galloped six furlongs in 1:13.1. Thalita hails from the DaCosta barn. 

EXPECTED RUNNERS IN THE KINGSTON

Burning Valor from the stables of Carl Anderson galloped four furlongs in 49.0 seconds.

El Afortunado galloped six furlongs in 1:17.3. El Afortunado is trained by Anthony Nunes.

Mojito, the champion two-year-old  2022, winner of the Prince Consort and the odds-on favourite for both The Kingston and the 2000 Guineas, galloped six furlongs in 1:15.3. Mojito is trained by Richard Azan.
