KINGSTON, Jamaica - Despite the City of Kingston Centenary Cup feature on the 10-race programme tomorrow at Caymanas Park, the Optional Claiming ($1 million - $850,000) going five furlongs (1,000m) straight should draw more attention based on the quality of the field set to face the starter.
The Anthony Nunes’ trained Patriarch seems set to don the favourite’s badge once more in a field of seven runners. Lottery Ticket and Campesino should keep him honest throughout this race.
Below is an analysis of the runners.
KAPPONE: (5-y-o b h – Taqarub – Lear Jet Set) – Acts well over the straight course, but against these, Kappone is in a tight spot.
CORALANDO: (7-y-o b g – Outrigger – Islamorada) – Capable sort who would prefer going longer.
MR AMBASSADOR: (8-y-o b g – Temple City – One Big Giggle) – Struggling somewhat and that is not going to change.
PATRIARCH: (5-y-o b h – Casual Trick – Electrifying) – Won well over the distance on last at the Overnight Allowance level. Then Patriarch clocked 57.3 for his easy 1 ¼ length win over Prince Charles. With little to fear from these, Patriarch should make it two wins in a row plus he is a lover of the five straight.
RICKY RICARDO: (5-y-o dkb g – Storm Craft – My Friend Lucy) – Has no chance of winning but can hit the board if focused.
LOTTERY TICKET: (7-y-o b m – Seeking The Glory – Just A Flutter) - Lottery Ticket is struggling for form of late. However, with a small field and only Patriarch, as an obstacle, Lottery Ticket, is poised to run her best race in recent times.
CAMPESINO: (10-y-o b g - Compadre – Yaella) – Oldtimer who still has some more rounds to fire. Campesino will figure in the outcome.
