KINGSTON, Jamaica - Patience and consistency have paid off for the connections of Money Monster as the six-year-old bay gelding impressively won the $1.14-million King’s Plate feature race after on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Caymanas Park.

Money Monster — bred, owned, and trained by Fitzroy Glispie — took up the running shortly after turning for home and strode away imperiously from rivals to win the Overnight Allowance contest by 4½ lengths over 7 ½ (1,500m).

Money Monster, who has not won a race since June 11 of last year and was only off the board four times from 11 starts during that time, stopped the ticking of the clock in a time of 1:33.4 (24.0 x 47.1 x 1:12.2).

Glispie, who was saddling his first winner for the season, said that he was pleased with the run from his charge,

“It was a very good performance from Money Monster to win this race. I mean, he did what I had expected him to do. Money Monster is in form, as he had three races under his belt prior, finishing second twice and third once.

“He then got a two-week break and came back here well fresh, and so we were confident. We are back to the Open Allowance level, and I guess we will see what happens up there. I am very pleased with the performance,” Glispie said in his post race interview.

With Reyan Lewis riding, Money Monster just sat off the pace in fourth place down the backstretch, tracking Freedom Street (Javaniel Patterson), who recovered from a poor start to set the pace ahead of Eagle One (Robert Halledeen) and Big Big Daddy (Richard Henry).

Going into the half-mile turn, the runner order remained the same until approaching the distance, when both Eagle One and Money Monster surrounded Freedom Street in what looked like a match race from here on.

However, turning for home, Money Monster hit another gear, leaving runners in his wake as the six-year-old bay gelding went on to win easily ahead of Crimson (Raddesh Roman) and Big Big Daddy.
