KINGSTON, Jamaica – Eleven three-year-old maidens will compete in the first race on Saturday, December 16, 2023.
A wide-open contest is expected, featuring contenders such as Hedge Fund, Glittering Magnum, and Bad Investment.
Here's a quick rundown of the contestants in this seven-furlong race:
1 – HEDGE CRAFT is a dark brown colt (May 14) by Hedge Fund out of Aretha. With only four races under his belt, he has shown promise for success. However, Hedge Craft's longest race so far has been at 5½ furlongs. He may struggle with the increase to seven furlongs.
2 – CAPTAIN PHILIP is a chestnut colt (April 8) by Hedge Fund out of Kandi With a K. As he races with blinkers and a tongue tie, it's worth noting he started strong but has since declined. No major improvement is anticipated.
3 – CASUAL TREASURE is a bay filly (April 10) by Casual Trick out of Peace By Peace. She shows no indication of being a contender for this race.
4 – SELECT PRINCE is a bay colt (March 27) by Silver Medallion out of Select Princess. With blinkers off and visor on, he enters the race with no strong recommendation despite jockey Raddesh Roman on board.
5 – GLITTERING MAGNUM is a bay filly (May 18) by Deputy Glitters out of Runaway Queen. Racing without blinkers, she has high expectations but hasn't delivered in her seven starts.
6 – PRINCESS TALISE is a bay filly by Savoy Stomp out of Dancing Queen. Competing without a visor doesn't help her odds despite several previous attempts.
7 – SWEET VICTORY is a grey filly (February 18) by Spieth out of Bitter End. She’s progressing after 15 outings but only has a chance for a finishing position on the board.
8 – OH MY is a bay filly (May 13) by Bold Conquest out of Nina Primera. Her running style should suit the seven-furlong distance, so she's approaching a potential victory and should be considered.
9 – SECURITY CODE is a bay colt (April 2) by Wannabeaplayer out of Jah Love. Racing without blinkers and using Lasix for the first time isn't enough to give him a realistic chance.
10 – BAD INVESTMENT is a bay colt (January 30) by Casual Trick out of My Angel Briannah. Close to winning by just a short head 21 days ago, he’s in top form and looks to be the likely winner of this maiden race.
11 – TEQUILA FLIGHT is a grey filly (April 3) by Spieth out of Alice and Trixie. She’s close to placing in exotic bets but may not win outright.
