KINGSTON, Jamaica – On Jamaica Day (November 11, 2023), amidst the celebrations of Desert of Malibu winning the Distaff, Atomica taking the Jamaica Cup, and Mahogany securing the Port Royal Sprint, a new trainer, Oral Hayden, accomplished a notable double.
Hayden, a recent graduate from the Racing Commission Trainers' School in May this year, started Jamaica Day with nine wins from 48 starts and began by winning the first race of the day.
This victory came with his 11-year-old horse Ras Emanuel, ridden by Robert Halledeen. It marked Ras Emanuel's 12th win in 82 starts. The race was a three-year-old and upwards claiming call ($1,000,000 - $800,000) at 6.5 furlongs, in which Ras Emanuel finished in 1:22.3.
Hayden's second win of the day was achieved in the third event with his four-year-old filly Talona.
She emerged victorious on the five-furlong straight course in a four-year-old and upwards non-winners of three call race and clocked a final time of 1:01.0.
