KINGSTON, Jamaica – Six-time champion jockey, Omar Walker got his day started on a winning note when he guided the Johnny Wilmot trained Uncle Wal to victory in the today’s third race at Caymanas Park.
From the off in the 6 ½ furlongs – Restricted Allowance 111 for five-year-olds and up – Uncle Wal as expected went straight into the lead followed by Okahumpka (Shane Ellis 26-1) with the rest of the runners way behind.
In the straight, Uncle Wal quickly disposed of Okahumpka but was noticeably shortening in the last furlong as Twilight Eruption (Jerome Innis 7-1) came with a late surge.
Walker pumping for all he was worth got home by two lengths.
Twilight Eruption was second with Makhi (Oneil Mullings – 3-2) finishing third.
The time done by Uncle Wal was a slow 1:21.3.
The win on Uncle Wal was Walker’s 63rd for the year and the 10th for trainer Wilmot.
