KINGSTON, Jamaica – It is not often that six-time champion jockey rides a winner at long odds of 16-1.
Yet “Hot Walker” as Walker is popularly known did just that in the ninth race aboard the Leroy Tomlinson trained Key Witness.
Walker and Key Witness won an Optional Claimer ($550,000 - $500,000) going a distance of 6 ½ furlongs.
Key Witness was not with the early leaders as Contractor (Dane Nelson) took the horses into the straight with Pakman (Youville Pinnock) looming on the outside.
Pakman took over with half-a-furlong to go but Walker brought Key Witness with a telling run on the inside rails to win by a short head.
Pakman was second with Eddie’s Princess third.
Key Witness was Walker’s second on the day.
