KINGSTON, Jamaica – Like vintage wine, 12-year-old bay gelding Hover Craft seemingly gets better with age. Hover Craft ridden by Anthony Thomas for trainer Jason DaCosta brought home the Overnight Allowance feature, run for the Jamaica Racehorse Owners Association Trophy going nine furlongs and 25 yards.
This was the twenty-second win for the gelding from 143 career starts for lifetime earnings of approximately $21,600,000.
When the starter pressed the go button, as expected it was Acero (Tevin Foster) who dashed to the front but by the time the horses completed the first turn, Supreme Soul (Kiaman McGregor) was hustled to the lead.
Down the backstretch Supreme Soul was in command with Roy Rogers (Nicholas Hibbert) getting closer, then with about 5 ½ furlongs left in the contest, the latter took over on the front end as Supreme Soul started to lose ground with Raw Liquid (Phillip Parchment) gaining momentum. At this stage, Thomas was moving Hover Craft slowly into view.
Thomas started to ask Hover Craft for a significant effort leaving the three-furlong marker, but it was Roy Rogers who took the field into the stretch for the final two furlongs. A rejuvenated Supreme Soul found his best stride to overtake a fading Roy Rogers. Thomas then brought the ‘old boy’ on the outside and Hover Craft took off to win by 1 ¼ lengths. Supreme Soul was second and Raw Liquid third.
Hover Craft closed a triple for Thomas and a double for DaCosta.
