KINGSTON, Jamaica – After lingering in the winless wilderness for the entire year, and also in 2020, the once promising jockey Odeen Edwards finally rode a winner aboard the Patrick Smellie trained Buzz Assault in the Caymanas Saturday fifth.

Racing for the third occasion Buzz Assault at odds of 6-1 came out trumps for his connections in a four-year-old and upwards maiden call at four furlongs.

When Mr Starter pressed his button, Buzz Assault hung to his left but was straightened out by Edwards as the likes of Cup (Robert Halledeen), Miss Francis (Jordan Barrett), and Bad Boy Theodore (Osive Donegal), set the early fractions.

Gathering momentum, Edwards started to push Buzz Assault into contention when the horses entered the main track.

With as many as four horses spread across the track Buzz Assault went ahead but had to stave off the final burst of Silverstine (Dick Cardenas), winning by a nose. Third was Cup Cake.

Buzz Assault provided trainer Smellie with his second win in 2021.
