KINGSTON, Jamaica – Nuclear Noon, a bay colt by Nuclear Wayne – Noon It Is wrapped up his preparations for the 2000 Guineas in style with a winning performance in the Caymanas Saturday seventh.
Making his sixth career start in a three-year-old and upwards call at seven furlongs, Nuclear Noon trained by Anthony Nunes and ridden by Robert ‘Hardball’ Halledeen made it win number three for his connections to significantly boost his stocks for the one-mile 2000 Guineas scheduled for June 5.
It was the 3-5 favourite Go Deh Girl (Dane Nelson) who pushed out first when the gates opened only to be passed quickly by Hoist The Mast (Shane Ellis). At this stage of the race Nuclear Noon was tucked in fourth place.
Hoist The Mast led at a merry clip and brought the field into the lane for the final two furlongs with Go Deh Girl poised to attack on the outside. Halledeen got a clear run on the inside rails on Nuclear Noon who accelerated with gusto under strong handling as Go Deh Girl and Nelson were not in a giving up mood but Nuclear Noon was simply going to well.
Go Deh Girl was second and Alimony third. The final time recorded by Nuclear was 1:27.1.
