KINGSTON, Jamaica - The nine-race program at Caymanas Park on Sunday, August 20, lacks any graded events, which puts the spotlight on the three-year-old non-winners of two races for locally bred horses and also a three-year-old maiden race for importees.
Eight horses will compete in the mile-long (1,600 meters) event, running for the Caymanas 1959 Trophy. Let's analyze their chances below, listed in draw order.
– ALL FOR LOVE is a chest filly (February 1) by Nuclear Wayne out of Princess Sallema, trained by Gary Subratie with Raddesh Roman in the saddle. Despite being outclassed in the Jamaica St Leger and Jamaica Oaks, she returns to her preferred distance of a mile. Adding a visor could improve her performance, but it's unlikely she'll be the first to cross the finish line.
– SISTER D is a dark bay filly (USA May 2) by Brethren out of Invidia, trained by Gary Subratie with Javaniel Patterson aboard. This importee hasn't shown enough potential to suggest a winning race is near.
– NORBLAR is bay colt (February 20) by Wannabeaplayer out of Special Degree, trained by Gresford Smith with Dane Dawkins in the saddle. This lightly raced bay colt has been on an upward trajectory lately, with a win and close second in his last two efforts. With champion jockey Dane Dawkins aboard once more, Norblar possesses a strong finishing kick that suits the one-mile distance well. He's the top pick.
– PRETTY CAROLINE is a bay filly (USA February 5) by Flintshire out of Caroline Victoria, trained by Patrick Lynch with Jerome Innis aboard. Note, Pretty Caroline races with the tongue tie on. This foreigner has yet to make a mark on local tracks.
– FROM SHEER TO BEN is a bay colt (April 8) by Here Comes Ben out of Sheer Madness, trained by Al Brown with Oneil Mullings in the saddle. From Sheer To Ben has consistently performed well in his five starts. Finishing just two lengths behind Norblar at seven furlongs 13 days prior, he merits consideration as the potential winner. A solid choice for exacta and quinella wagers.
– SUPERIO is a bay colt (March 27) by Soul Warrior out of Ashtrid, trained by Ian Roberts with Paul Francis aboard. Still finding his feet among non-winners of two races. Needs more time.
– BLINKIN LIGHT is a bay colt (April 12) by Patton Proud out of Storm Girl, trained by Gary Griffiths with Shane Richardson in the saddle. Blinkin Light is gradually adjusting to life as a non-winner of two races level competitor.
– GEOLITHIC is a bay filly (USA February 25) by Neolithic out of Queen Q, trained by Peter-John Parsard with Reyan Lewis aboard. In both of his races, Geolithic finished third. The American-bred horse has shown he can handle a mile, especially performing well in the final stages of his races. She shouldn't be overlooked, especially with the leading rider piloting.
