KINGSTON, Jamaica – The second race on Sunday, June 18, 2023, provides three-year-olds at the non-winners of two-level, the opportunity of racing around two bends, as the preparation for the three remaining Classic races intensifies.
Six horses are making use of this opening to race over nine furlongs and 25 yards.
The Quick Galloper’s analysis is given below for the scrutiny of readers.
1 – LIFE IS LIFE is a bay colt (February 18) by Natural Selection out of Little Wasp, trained by Jason DaCosta with Phillip Parchment aboard. Just broke his maiden 14 days ago, and now tries non-winners of two for the first time. Needs time.
2 – BURLAP is a bay colt (March 18) by Casual Trick out of Fedora, trained by Richard Azan with Dane Dawkins in the saddle. Not in the best of form at this time.
3 – HUNTSMAN is a chestnut colt (April 8) by Key To Power out of Dream Point, trained by Ian Parsard with Reyan Lewis aboard. Won convincingly on debut (April 15), then finished 12 lengths behind Mojito in The Kingston (7 ½ furlongs). Huntsman did not participate in the 2000 Guineas. This Sunday's effort is to see whether or not Huntsman has progressed enough to play a role of prominence in the upcoming Classic races. This should be an easy troll for Huntsman.
4 – KEM is a chestnut colt (June 29) by Here Comes Ben by Lost Springs, trained by Paul Swaby with Bebeto Harvey in the saddle. Note, Kem races with the visor off. Won on last going 4 ½ furlongs. It is an impossible task for Kem to move from 4 ½ to nine furlongs and 25 yards, and win.
5 – DE LYE LA is a bay filly (February 25) by Bern Identity out of Along, trained by Ian Parsard with Jerome Innis aboard. De Lye La is an obvious filler.
6 – FROM SHEER TO BEN is a bay colt (April 8) by Here Comes Ben out of Sheer Madness, trained by Alford Brown with Anthony Thomas aboard.
