TOBA

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) successfully purchased nine yearling fillies at the 2023 Woodbine Premier Yearling Sale in Canada, under the supervision of TOBA director and trainer Lorenzo Robinson.

After completing their required quarantine, these Canadian yearlings will participate in TOBA's annual Yearling Sale at Caymanas Park on Sunday, November 12.

These fillies are granted free entry into the 2024 Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC) - TOBA race series, competing with native-bred horses.

Victorious owners in this series will receive a $1 million BGLC – TOBA bonus on top of the standard purse money.

It should be noted that horses not entered, sold, or nominated in the 2023 TOBA Yearling Sale must pay a $75,000 nomination fee to qualify for the $1 million bonus.

  1. Questions:
    1. Is race day Lasix administered to Canadian thoroughbreds?
    2. Is cost a factor in purchasing Canadian bred thoroughbreds vs US bred?

    1. Will check, but let us not forget that probably the best ever stallion worldwide, Northern Dancer is a Canada bred, plus one of the best stallions at present Curlin, has a Canadian father.
