KINGSTON, Jamaica – It took imported in utero five-year-old bay horse Neo Star only two starts to win in Overnight Allowance, thereby making the trek to the higher grade of Open Allowance.
Neo Star, trained by trainer Peter-John Parsard with victory on January 1, 2024, in the nine furlongs and 25 yards – Fan Appreciation Day Trophy – has boosted his career credentials to an impressive five wins from seven starts, with two second-place finishes. Neo Star’s earnings have now risen to just over $3 million.
For trainer Parsard, the progress made by Neo Star was worth the wait, and effort.
“It has been a long, patient, and sometimes arduous road with Neo Star.
“At three years old, we at the stables were firm in the belief that he had strong potential to do well in the Classic races. Unfortunately, Neo Star was hampered by several issues, causing him not to race at three.
“We never gave up hope on Neo Star, and finally he made his debut on August 26, as a four-year-old, finishing second in a five straight contest, beaten by Premier Identity.
“Then it was four wins in succession, and all the work started to pay off.
“Neo Star lost in his first attempt in Overnight Allowance, beaten a neck by Rainsville in the Chairman’s Plate on the Mouttet Mile race day.
“And, now Neo Star is in Open Allowance after his win on January 1, 2024,” Parsard shared with this website.
On January 1, 2024, Neo Star ridden by Raddesh Roman, racing again over the two turns of 9 furlongs and 25 yards, raced behind the pacesetters, then took over with about three furlongs left in the contest.
Leading into the lane for the final two furlongs, Neo Star was consistently tested by the pesky Sensational Move (Dane Dawkins). Demonstrating true grit and the determination not to be passed, Neo Star dug deep to find extra, pulling away to score by 3 ¾ lengths, in a final time of 1:55.3, with splits of 26.0 x 51.0 x 1:1:15.1 x 1:41.1.
“Neo Star is now in Open Allowance, and I expect him to go even further. Time will tell,” Parsard said.
