KINGSTON, Jamaica - Three-year-old chestnut filly, Mrs. Lyndhurst, showcased a defining performance on Saturday, August 5, 2023, as she secured victory at Caymanas Park in the eighth race. The event was a six-furlong call for three-year-old fillies who hadn't previously won two races.
Champion jockey Dane Dawkins rode Mrs. Lyndhurst for trainer Steven Todd, and they quickly challenged for the lead when the race started. Although multiple rivals pursued her around the bend, Mrs. Lyndhurst maintained her advantage entering the final two furlongs of the straight.
In the final furlong, Mrs. Lyndhurst persevered and secured her victory despite veering off course due to her racing inexperience, having participated in just four races. She defeated her nearest rival by 1 ¾ lengths with a final time of 1:16.1 and running splits of 23.2 x 49.0.
Finishing second was Wayne’s Princess, with The Love Of God occupying the third slot.
“Pleased with the win. After chatting with the owner a decision will be taken as to the future progress of Mrs. Lyndhurst.
“She has talent, but has her issues, and has to be treated with special care,” trainer Todd stated in his post-race interview.
