KINGSTON, Jamaica – He was not his usual swashbuckling sprinting self but Mr Universe after finishing second in his last three starts and who seems to be reviving his career at the back-end of this season, went one better in today’s seventh – an Open Allowance contest run over five and a half furlongs.

With the ever improving apprentice Raddesh Roman in the saddle, Mr Universe was close to the leaders Lady Blue (Omar Walker) and Zephyr (Reyan Lewis) before easing by the field from the top of the straight to get home by 2 3/4 lengths. Known speedster Exhilarate (Daniel Satchell) got off to a terrible start and despite catching up somewhat with the leaders faded badly in the straight to finish last.

Lady Blue was second with Zephyr passing the winning post third. Zephyr was later disqualified and given fifth place on what has so far been a rather active day for the race day stewards.

Mr Universe won in a time of 1:04.4. Both Mr Universe and Lady Blue are trained by Wayne DaCosta and owned by Carlton Watson.
