KINGSTON, Jamaica – Forty-one three-year-olds have been nominated to race this weekend (Saturday, March 26 – Sunday, March 27), with both days having two maiden condition races for the grouping.
Division One of the two maiden condition events on Sunday (Mar 27) has 11 entries going 6 ½ furlongs.
THE QUICK GALLOPER examines the winning chances of the entries.
1 – Masterclass is a three-year-old bay gelding (March 22) by Casual Trick out of Awesome Destiny trained by Gary Subratie with Andre Powell in the saddle. Masterclass has raced five times without disturbing the attention of pundits. That trend will continue Sunday. Masterclass races with the blinkers on and the cheek pieces off. Projected odds 35-1.
2 – Get A Pepsi is a three-year-old chestnut gelding (March 13) by Blue Pepsi Lodge out of Getupstandup trained by Patrick Fong with Hakeem Pottinger in the saddle. Get A Pepsi has three efforts under his girth to date, finishing third two times. On March 13, Get A Pepsi raced prominently and was close to the leaders but faltered in the last furlong of a 7 ½ furlong event. With a furlong less to travel, Get A Pepsi has increased his options of winning, plus he is racing with Lasix administered for the first time. Projected odds 9-5.
3 – Funometer is a three-year-old dark bay colt (April 12) by Traditional out of Opulent trained by Anthony Nunes with Richard Reid in the saddle. Although well-seasoned, Funometer has failed to show much worth, and maybe with the figure-8 now on there will be improvement. Projected odds 5-1.
4 – Lady Ben is a three-year-old bay filly (January 9) by Herecomesben – Lady Maragin trained by Michael Marlowe with Omar Simpson in the saddle. Lady Ben will be hard-pressed to win. Projected odds 80-1.
5 – Potential is a three-year-old bay colt (January 24) by Traditional out Breath of Life trained by Patrick Lynch with Dane Dawkins in the saddle. Has a lot to do if he is to win this one. Projected odds 75-1.
6 – One Like It is a chestnut colt (January 28) by Deputy Glitters out of Sandbath trained by Gresford Smith with Omar Walker in the saddle. One Like It did well on his debut run (January 19), finishing fourth – eleven lengths behind winner The Citadel at 6 ½ furlongs. Then One Like It raced prominently before backing out, and with that run is sure to sharpen, plus his exercise reports suggest that he is progressing well. Note, One Like It races on Sunday with the tongue tie on and the figure eight off. Projected odds 12-1.
7 – Howilookin is a bay colt (February 12) by Western Classic – Gold Charm trained by Anthony Nunes with Tevin Foster in the saddle. Howilookin has raced three times with his best run being a second, 2 ¾ lengths behind Scooby going a mile. Howilookin has as much chance as his other ten rivals. Projected odds 9-5.
8 – Without Remorse is a three-year-old chestnut colt (May 12) by Midnight Hawk out of Lady In Gold trained by Randolph Scott with Ruja Lahoe in the saddle. Difficult to see Without Remorse winning this one. Note the blinkers have been put on. Projected odds 40-1.
9 – Slam is a three-year-old bay gelding (March 4) by Sensational Slam out of Bedroom Chatter trained by Philip Feanny with Oneil Mullings in the saddle. Thus far, Slam has not lived up to what many believe is his true potential. Maybe the difference may come with the visor on and the tongue-tie off. Projected odds 4-1.
10 – Morimoto is a three-year-old bay colt (May 24) by Casual Trick out of Luckybegood trained by Anthony Nunes with Robert Halledeen in the saddle. Clockers believe that Morimoto is of much worth based on his preparation coming into this race. As such, this first-timer is given a shot of winning. Projected odds 2-1.
11 – Giant Wheeler is a three-year-old chestnut gelding (April 29) by Northern Giant out of Khadiliah trained by Jason DaCosta with Dane Nelson in the saddle. Giant Wheeler has nothing of major interest to show from his four career starts. Giant Wheeler has been coming along nicely at exercise with a better effort on the cards. Note Giant Wheeler races with the blinkers off. Projected odds 9-2.
