After two lacklustre performances, Money Miser, bred, owned, and trained by Fitzroy Glispie, rebounded with victory in Division One of the O & S Tack Room Trophy feature race at Caymanas Park on Saturday, August 31, 2024.

Running without the cheek pieces, Money Miser was successful in a Restricted Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward going a mile. Money Miser won in a time of 1:40.0 with splits of 23.3 x 45.3 x 1:12.3 x 1:26.1.

Power from Above (Matthew Bennett) finished second and favourite Digital One (Raddesh Roman) came home in third place.

“His preparation was a tedious one. He is a horse that doesn’t works well on the track as he has to be carried out with the pony. Sometimes he works and sometimes he doesn’t,” Glispie said.

“I wasn’t worried at any point during the race because from day one I thought it was a two-horse race between Power from Above and Money Miser and my horse was comfortable in front entering the straight. He is still eligible for another Overnight Allowance race, so there is where we will go next,” he added.

With Tevin Foster onboard, Money Miser broke from the gates and settled into a comfortable third position, trailing Burlap (Shane Richardson) and Digital One. As they navigated the backstretch, Money Miser maintained a steady gallop, biding his time until the perfect moment to make his move.

That moment arrived as they approached the half-mile (800m) turn, where Foster skilfully urged Money Miser forward.

As they entered the final stretch, a late challenge from Power from Above threatened to upset Money Miser’s momentum.

However,  Money Miser dug deep and found the extra reserves needed to cross the wire comfortably, securing a well-deserved victory.
