KINGSTON, Jamaica - MONEY Market’s impressive debut win in Division One of a maiden special weight event for native-bred three year olds over five and a half furlongs (1,100m) on Saturday, May 13, 2023, has trainer Ryan Darby hoping his bay horse grows enough to compete in the Classic series of races.

Money Market, ridden by Paul Francis, won the race by five lengths, crossing the finish line in 1:07.3 (23.3 x 47.0).

Money Market (Successful Native out of Soca Dancer) led from the start, followed by Essential Quality (Anthony Thomas), James (Omar Walker), and Money Miser (Reyan Lewis). Money Market accelerated on competitors navigating the half mile (800m), ready to cruise to victory.

Money Market headed for home with a reasonable lead and held his speed nicely, winning ahead of Money Miser and James at the finish line.

“I am overjoyed with Money Market’s victory. He was a yearling when we got him, one of the few purchases I had made from the farm. We waited and took our time with him until he was completely matured, before allowing him to race.

“He ran a good time the first time we asked, just in time for the big races if he keeps improving, and so we are exactly where we want to be. We are quite happy with his effort.

“We’re a little behind because the 2000 Guineas is right around the corner, so we’ll have to stretch him out a little like a 6 1/2- or 7-furlong race and see if he improves enough to catch one of the big races,” Darby said.
