KINGSTON, Jamaica – The seventh event on the Ash Wednesday card of February 22, features six horses competing at the level of three-year-old non-winners of three, along with a mix of foreign-bred three-year-old non-three, and four-year-old non-winners of four races.
The chances of winning by each of the six horses entered are analysed below for this 6 ½ furlong call.
1 – FLY MESSENGER FLY is a four-year-old chestnut filly by Northern Giant out of Preach Preacher trained by Jason DaCosta with Javaniel Patterson aboard. Filling space for her stablemates.
2 – MAMMA MIA is a three-year-old chestnut filly (February 26) by Soul Warrior out of Princess Geeta trained by Jason DaCosta with Reyan Lewis in the saddle. Making her seasonal bow after a two-year-old career of four starts and two victories. The distance is perfect for this Classic seeking filly, plus Mamma Mia is working well. Will be hard to deny.
3 – REJECTED RAJA is a three-year-old chestnut colt (February 2) by Soul Warrior out of Palace Gold trained by Robert Pearson with Shavon Townsend doing the riding duties. Rejected Raja has two wins from three starts, with one of those wins coming via the stewards’ room. An accomplished campaigner, who will play a prominent role throughout.
4 – FRED THE GREAT is a three-year-old bay colt (USA March 26) by Adios Charlie out of Joyance trained by Jason DaCosta with Robert Halledeen in the saddle. Coming along well in the mornings, and has one win from three career starts. Fred The Great ran well against good opposition and is fit and proper for this one.
5 – SHE’S MY FRIEND is a four-year-old bay filly by Natural Selection out of My Friend Lucy trained by Jason DaCosta with Daniel Thompson aboard. Has no realistic chance of winning.
6 – TEKAPUNT is a four-year-old bay gelding by Northern Giant out of Just A Flutter trained by Jason DaCosta with Roger Hewitt in the saddle. A seasoned sort, who will be coming on in the lane. Tekapunt is capable of winning especially if the early speed crumbles. Cannot be disregarded.
