KINGSTON, Jamaica – In the 2023 Jamaica Oaks, a 10-furlong race for three-year-old fillies, Phillip Parchment showcased a different style than his usual swashbuckling demeanor.
Seated atop Mamma Mia, Parchment rode with composure, taking the lead as soon as the gates opened.
Unperturbed throughout the race, he expertly urged Mamma Mia forward in the final stretch. The talented filly, sired by Soul Warrior and out of Princess Geeta, responded as a Classic winner should, decisively outpacing her rivals and winning by all of 12 lengths.
This marked Parchment's second Oaks win, trainer Jason DaCosta's first, and owner Carlton Watson's second success in the prestigious race.
