General Mubaraak at 15-1 seals a double for Matthew Bennett
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Trainer Steven Todd gained a natural hattrick of winners when his charge General Mubaraak won the New Year’s Day seventh with Matthew Bennett in the saddle.
Todd had earlier success in the fifth with Awesome Rich, and in the sixth with Chief of State.
It was also a double on the day for Bennett, who had previously guided Kholbear to victory in the second event.
The New Year’s Day seventh was for four-year-old and upwards claimers ($250,000 - $200,000) over the two-turns of nine furlongs and 25 yards.
General Mubaraak’s victory by a head was aided by the waywardness of the leader coming into the straight Sir Arjun Babu (Robert Halledeen), who veered to be almost touching the stand rails while Bennet did the opposite by keeping his mount as close as possible to the inside.
Storm Valley (Javaniel Patterson), the early leader finished third in the field of six runners.
