KINGSTON, Jamaica - The second race on Saturday, September 14, 2024, is for three-year-old non-winners of two and also for foreign-bred three-year-old maidens.
Six of the seven horses nominated to contest this seven-furlong call are locally bred with one foreigner.
The Quick Galloper’s take on the possible outcome of this event is published below.
1 - PRINCESS FIANIE is a bay filly (January 15) by Soul Warrior out of Ship Sam, trained by Rudolph Hardial with Ramon Nepare riding. Racing in non-two for the second time after finishing 5 by 6 ¾ lengths six days ago at six furlongs. Princess Fianie will appreciate the increase in distance.
2 - HOTBRED SCAMMER is a bred in utero, three-year-old brown colt (March 9) by Tapwrit out of Great Hot, trained by Patrick Fong with Paul Francis in the saddle. Made his debut on August 24, finishing fifth by 4 ½ lengths after a poor start going 6 ½ furlongs. Having that first outing, if Hotbred Scammer can overcome his gate issues, he is a live contender.
3 - NEVER is a grey colt (April 4) by Bern Identity out of Miss Addi, trained by Michael Marlowe with Oshane Nugent aboard. Got off the mark on August 17, and now enter the higher grade for the first occasion. Needs time to adjust.
4 - GO WEST YOUNG MAN is a bay colt (May 23) by Western Mirror out of Uncle Tammy, trained by Tensang Chung with Matthew Bennett holding the reins. Another one, who is entering non-two for the first time. Will learn from this outing.
5 - MAIN MISTRESS is a dark bay filly (USA March 22) by Mo Town out of Timetobegone, trained by Peter-John Parsard with Reyan Lewis riding. Well backed on her local debut (August 3) over six furlongs, but did not run as anticipated, running on to finish third, 3 ½ lengths adrift of winner Trust Fund Baby. Returns well-tuned, plus the experience garnered by that opening effort, and a less competitive field, Main Mistress is poised to get off the mark.
6 - OIL MACHINE is a chestnut colt (January 28) by Bern Identity out of Keep The Faith, trained by Phillip Elliott with Raddesh Roman aboard. Comes into non-two for the first time, and cannot be given even a reasonable chance of winning this one.
7 - ZULU WARRIOR is a chestnut colt (April 27) by Soul Warrior out of Lookatmenow, trained by Howard Bailey with Tevin Foster holding the reins. After a failed attempt in the Derby, Zulu Warrior returned on August 24, finishing third, a length behind Firecracker and Brenda Boy at 6 ½ furlongs. Zulu Warrior is a run-on sort, with seven furlongs just about right. Will have a say in the outcome.
