KINGSTON, Jamaica – The racing norm that nine out of 10 times a good colt/gelding will always beat a good filly once again manifested itself at Caymanas Park a short while ago in the day’s ninth race.

The much talked about clash between the gelding Mahogany and the filly England’s Rose did not materialise as Mahogany once again demonstrated his undoubted class with a smashing victory in a Restricted Stakes for local and imported three-year-olds going 5 ½ furlongs.

It was She’s A Hit (Javaniel Patterson – 16/1) whom set the pace with England’s Rose and Mahogany following close behind.

Around the turn coming into the straight Dane Dawkins aboard Mahogany made their move getting closer and closer to the leader with England’s Rose already a spent force.

In the straight, Mahogany was kept on the inside by Dawkins and the gelding found his top stride pulling away from rivals to win by an increasing 4 ¼ lengths.

Second running on was Mahogany’s stable mate Father Patrick (Youville Pinnock 22/1) to give trainer Ian Parsard a one-two out come in the race. England’s Rose was a rather disappointing third as the 1-2 favourite.

Parsard after the race said: “We had a bit of fear given that he (Mahogany) was affected by a virus and also because of the long break, but today, he came through well and our job now is to keep him healthy and strong before the 2000 Guineas in late July.”

The winning time was 1:06.0 on a slow track.

This was the second winner on the day for Dawkins.
