KINGSTON, Jamaica - Proven top-ranked campaigner Mahogany broke his four-race losing streak in 2024, with a win at the Open Allowance level over seven furlongs on Saturday, August 10.

With Shane Ellis in the saddle for trainer Ian Parsard, Mahogany raced a tad behind the early leader Yellowstone (Oshane Nugent), with the rest of the pack traveling in their wake.

When rounding the bend, Ellis decided enough was enough, pushing through his mount who responded quickly with devastating effort. Thereafter, it became a quest for the second slot filled by Easy As A.B.C with Thalita third.

The margin of victory was 7 ¾ lengths by 10 ¾, with a clocking of 1:26.2 seconds.

Commenting on the long-awaited winning effort by his charge, Parsard was cautious.

“Yes, it took a little while, but Mahogany finally got it right on Saturday. As far as I am concerned, the difference this time was that Mahogany was healthy coupled with expert handling by Ellis.

“He paced Mahogany well down the backstretch and knew exactly when to move.

“Despite getting on in years, and despite his many issues, Mahogany still has a lot more to give.

“My task is to keep him in the right frame of mind to give his best every time he races,” Parsard told this website.
