KINGSTON, Jamaica – If ever a jockey won a race, it was in the Caymanas seventh at a mile for the The Viceroy Trophy when Dane “Warrior Chief” Nelson conjured a remarkable effort to get his mount Oneofakind in front on the line.
In a pulsating stretch drive, Oneofakind, after flying by rivals passing the three-furlong point in the contest, quickly took over with the Horse of the Year, Nipster (Robert Halledeen) coming hard on the outside. Nipster took the lead and looked the likely winner but Nelson got Oneofakind racing in the Open Allowance/Graded 1 level for the first time to respond after changing his hold and the four-year-old got up to savour victory three-parts-of-a-length.
Third went to Sentient while favourite Toona Ciliata was a no show today.
The winning time was 1:39.1.
