KINGSTON, Jamaica – Foreigner Madelyn’s Sunshine was expected to win, and that she did but not with the authority expected in the Caymanas Saturday (May 21) fourth, a three-year-old and upwards (non-four) for local horses and a non-three for foreigners going 6 ½ furlongs.
Madelyn’s Sunshine with Anthony Thomas in the saddle for trainer Jason DaCosta went to the front and was never challenged for the lead until the final furlong when Berning Red (Dick Cardenas) pressed forward. Madelyn’s Sunshine was faltering a touch in deep stretch but held on strongly to win by 2 ½ lengths. Third another 10 ½ lengths behind second-place Berning Red was Golden Wattle with regular rider Tevin Foster atop. The final time was 1:20.3.
Thomas was on his second winner on the day having scored with Royal Vibes in the day’s third.
